What made you chose to become the program director?
I have had great mentorship and want to continue to make this the best EM residency program in the country.
What challenges do you foresee in graduate medical education in the future?
Balancing the increasing demands placed on learners and still maintaining a quality education. Tailoring an education plan to trainees that allows for flexibility and enhances individual career goals.
What are the strengths of your training program?
We deliver quality, patient-centered care with high acuity experiences and offer a diverse curriculum incorporating simulation activities, procedure labs and small-group teaching.

List some accomplishments that you are proud of:
Our graduates can provide emergency medicine in any environment, including urban, rural and academic medical centers. The comradery we have with our faculty and residents is everlasting.
Tell us three things about you that others may not know:
- I live in a split household. I am a loyal Husker fan, but wife and children are Hawkeye fans.
- I am a meticulous about yardwork and landscaping. My backyard is my happy place!
- We had a golden retriever, “Scrubs,” for almost 15 years. We are actively looking for a new member of the family.
