Region VII Emerging Special Pathogen Treatment Center Provides Webinar Training

On October 7, 2020, the Region VII Emerging Special Pathogen Treatment Center (RESPTC) hosted a virtual biopreparedness course for Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, and Missouri learners. The course was attended by over 150 physicians, emergency managers, nurses, respiratory therapists, and other health care workers. By live and active participation in the course, attendees were able to earn up to nine continuing education units.

The virtual course was divided into four different sessions. Some of the topics covered over the day included:

  • Personal protective equipment
  • Treatment considerations
  • Infection control
  • COVID-19 and oher special pathogens
  • Staff resiliency

Dr. David Cates, UNMC Vice Chair of Clinical Operations in the Department of Psychiatry, presented information regarding staff resiliency. He focused on not only the value and importance of self-care, but also different self-care techniques—attendees found this particularly beneficial and motivating. Attendees noted the information they learned would help them "take better care of myself," and they will be sure to "round with my team to ensure they are supported; listening to their concerns will be a priority."

RESPTC plans to offer additional educational courses in the future. If you have questions, topic suggestions, or need assistance, you can email nbu@nebraskamed.com.
