University not participating in deferral of Social Security taxes
The University of Nebraska is following the State of Nebraska and will not participate in deferral of employee Social Security taxes, which was authorized by the Aug. 8 Presidential Memorandum. The Social Security taxes would have been deferred September through December 2020 and subsequently collected January through April 2021. This means that employees would have had double deductions for the Social Security tax in the first four months of 2021. Employees will not have the opportunity to opt into the deferral program. Questions can be directed to human resources via email.
Med center will join the Walk from Obesity on Sept. 26
Nebraska Medicine and UNMC will field a team for National Walk from Obesity (WFO) Day. The virtual event is Saturday, Sept. 26. Join the team or learn more.
The ASMBS (American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery) Foundation’s Walk from Obesity is the only national walkathon event that brings together those who are directly affected by obesity. This year, the team is taking steps by raising funds for critical research and drawing attention to the disease of obesity and the need for treatment and prevention efforts. Funds raised through this virtual event will benefit access to care and research grants, with COVID-19/obesity grant requests taking precedence.
