Sign up for socially distanced intramural leagues

Bocce is one of the intramural sports available this fall.

The 2020-2021 academic year has begun, and intramural registration is open once again. The fall 2020 intramural season will kick off with bocce and cornhole. Both leagues will be offered outdoors, and, amid COVID-19, every precaution has been taken to ensure that these sports may be played as safely as possible.

The staff at the Center for Healthy Living is here to help you play your way to a more active lifestyle with intramural leagues. Whether a team is made of co-workers, classmates, friends or family members, the goal is to help participants stay active and have fun in the process. Registration only takes a moment, so sign up today!

Fall 2020 outdoor leagues

  • Bocce: (4v4) Bocce looks like a mixture of lawn bowling and Skee-ball with a hint of shuffleboard. It is played by teams of four players, and it is a breeze for new players to learn. Beginning Sept. 22, the bocce league will be played Tuesday evenings from 5-6 p.m.
  • Cornhole: (2v2) For the first time, cornhole will be offered as a league at UNMC. It is a straightforward game, but teams can expect a healthy dose of competition during this tailgating favorite. Beginning Sept. 23, the cornhole league will be played Wednesday evenings from 5-6 p.m.

League Format

The fall outdoor leagues will be played on the green space in the Ruth and Bill Scott Student Plaza Sept. 22 – Oct. 14. Matches will last approximately 30 minutes, and the season will run for a total of four weeks, including the playoffs on Oct. 13 and 14. In the event of inclement weather, matches will be moved indoors to the Center for Healthy Living’s gymnasium.

COVID-19 precautions

The following measures will be taken to protect the health and safety of participants and the UNMC campus during the global pandemic.

  • Masks and gloves will be available to participants;
  • Participants will be required to wear masks;
  • Participants will be required to maintain a minimum distance of six feet;
  • Bocce balls, bean bags and cornhole boards will be disinfected by campus rec staff; and
