- Name: Erin Koziel
- Hometown: Council Bluffs, Iowa
- Title and department at UNMC: Instructor; clinical coordinator, chemistry/urinalysis
Research/professional interests: I enjoy working behind the scenes to deliver patient results so that frontline providers can modify and tailor therapies based on the patient’s current condition.
How I fell in love with medical laboratory sciences: Throughout my life, I’ve always known I wanted to be in the health care field, usually as some type of doctor. While earning my undergraduate degree, I fell in love with working in a laboratory, but didn’t know how to merge health care and laboratory work. After college, I started working in a pathology lab at a local hospital, where I discovered my answer — medical laboratory science. I find it very rewarding to be such an integral part of patient care.
Degrees:
- BS, clinical laboratory science, UNMC
- BS, biotechnology, University of Nebraska at Omaha
Memberships:
- American Society for Clinical Pathology
Three things people may not know about me:
- I have three children all under 9 years of age that keep me busy.
- I’ve been weightlifting at the gym for the past six years.
- I love to read (but don’t always have the time for it).
