Based on new guidance from the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, UNMC has updated its previous guidance on domestic travel.
Beginning June 1, an automatic 14-day quarantine no longer will be in effect for those who have traveled to another state. Instead, all faculty, staff and students returning to one of the UNMC campuses after travel within Nebraska or any other U.S. state should self-monitor using the 1-Check COVID mobile app (on Android and iOS devices).
Those evaluated to be at “low COVID risk” can proceed to their campus, following the guidance put into place for mitigating risks on that campus (e.g., masks, social distancing, hand hygiene). Anyone returning from travel from any area who feels ill or screens at “moderate COVID risk or high COVID risk” on the app should stay home and contact your health care provider. All students, faculty and staff returning from overseas are also advised to use the mobile device application and will also need to continue to observe a 14-day self-quarantine.
If required to go into self-quarantine or self-isolation due to travel or symptoms, the individual must notify campus Employee Health or Student Health, as appropriate for a standardized wellness screening and/or testing prior to returning to campus for any reason.
In addition, following recent guidance from the governor’s office, people traveling out of state for Memorial Day weekend will not be required to self-quarantine upon their return to Nebraska, although Gov. Ricketts urged the use of good judgment in avoiding destinations with high incidences of COVID-19 cases.
Other guidelines may apply to staff, faculty, residents, fellows and students who are involved in providing patient care or support for patient care at Nebraska Medicine, Children’s Hospital & Medical Center of Omaha, and other clinical settings. If so, those individuals are expected to follow the rules set by the respective clinical institution or clinical unit.
