UNMC De-Stress Week starts today

UNMC students and staff are invited to participate in this week’s De-Stress week celebration. All events will be held online.

To kick off the week join Peter Pellerito, fitness specialist at the Center for Healthy Living, for a talk on “Physical activity without a facility: Get fit, feel good and have fun!” at 11 a.m. You can view this presentation via Zoom.

At 2 p.m., take a moment to “Paws” and De-Stress by heading over to our UNMC Instagram, where we will be filling our story feed with photos and videos of the many adorable pets that belong to UNMC campus employees.

Tuesday, April 28

  • Student Wellness Webinar, 8 a.m., Zoom: Join the UNMC Campus Wellness Team for this week’s Wellness Webinar “Sparking Joy (and other positive emotions).” The team will be chatting about how to cultivate positive emotions, including humor, gratitude, and appreciation, during this challenging time. Register here. If you are unable to join during this timeframe the wellness team will present this same content again on Thursday.
  • Low Impact Aerobics Class (live): Noon- 1 p.m., Engage Wellness’s Facebook page: Students and staff are welcome to take part in a lunch time workout provided by Engage Wellness Center. Chelsea Lewis, a wellness specialist at Engage, will lead this workout.

Wednesday, April 29

  • Lunch N’ Learn: Healthy Eating During Coronavirus Pandemic, Zoom: Join dietician Rebecca Kraay as she talks tips and tricks for continuing to eat healthy during this time while sharing resources and strategies for minimizing stress and boredom eating.

Thursday, April 30

  • Low-Impact Aerobics Class (live): Noon-1 p.m., Engage Wellness’s Facebook page: Chelsea Lewis from Engage Wellness will once again lead a lunch hour workout.
  • Student Wellness Webinar, 4 p.m., Zoom: The Campus Wellness team will present their webinar “Sparking Joy (and other positive emotions)” for those who are unable to attend on Tuesday. Register here.

  • Daily yoga and meditation sessions: The Behavioral Health Education Center of Nebraska (BHECN), in partnership with Lotus House of Yoga will continue to provide the UNMC campus with free virtual yoga and meditation sessions daily during DeStress week, as part of the BHECN Serenity Project. Participants can view the new daily content on the BHECN website or Facebook page.
  • There also will be daily messages from campus leaders and staff, wellness tips, and more being shared on Instagram, so be sure to follow us.
