Call for proposals for ‘Shark Tank’ grants

This year’s Premier Education Event is “Shark Tank: Dive Deep for Change.”

This Shark Tank-style event, sponsored by UNMC Faculty Development and the Interprofessional Academy of Educators, was created as a way to recognize innovation in education, foster interprofessional collaboration and promote educational research. UNMC individuals and teams will compete for an education research grant worth up to $15,000.

The planning committee is looking for enthusiastic and passionate educators who want to do something new and exhilarating:

  • Want to transform the way educators teach at the bedside forever?
  • Ready to try something radically different in distance learning?
  • Want to turn simulation upside down and inside out?

This event is designed for educators and colleges who want to take UNMC to the next level.

Project submissions should be innovative ideas aimed at enhancing teaching and learning for the future. Eligibility is open to teams of faculty, staff, residents and students led by a principal investigator who is a UNMC faculty member. Interprofessional and/or multi-institutional collaborations are encouraged.

Applications are due June 1.

Following the submission deadline, proposals will be reviewed, and three to four finalists will be selected. Presentations will take place during a live event on Aug. 20, where select finalists will present their project to a panel of “sharks” and a UNMC audience. Winners will be awarded a grant of up to $15,000 for their project. Funds may be solely awarded to a top proposal or distributed among projects.

This event is a unique opportunity to receive direct feedback from educational experts and gain access to a variety of resources to help turn your ideas into reality. Finalists will be notified by July 1 and must be available to present in-person during the event on Aug. 20.
