UNMC Ice Rink to close after Sunday

This is the final weekend for ice skating at the UNMC Ice Rink. Bring your family and friends for a few more laps around the rink before it closes for the season after Sunday, Feb. 2.

The rink will be open from 11:30 a.m.-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 11:30 a.m.-8 p.m. Sunday.

The rink is finishing its most successful season since it opened at UNMC in 2009.

More than 5,500 people have skated at the rink since it opened on Nov. 29, 2019, a record number. That number included the Skate-a-Thon for Parkinson’s, held Jan. 24-25, which drew 540 skaters over 24 hours.

“We had a fantastic year at the ice rink, as the weather cooperated and we had record turnout and use of our incredible rink, the best outdoor rink in Omaha,” said Bill Lawlor, assistant vice chancellor for business and finance. “Anybody who has skated at the rink realizes what a wonderful gift it is to UNMC, and we will always be grateful for the donors who made this possible.”

As a reminder, students, faculty and staff at UNMC/Nebraska Medicine, as well as family members, can skate for free when they show their ID. Admission for the general public is $5, which includes skate rental.
