College of Nursing ranks among nation’s best online programs

The UNMC College of Nursing is ranked among the nation’s Best Online Graduate Nursing Programs by U.S. News & World Report.

In its 2020 Best Online Programs rankings released today, the college’s graduate online nursing program is tied at 66th with eight other institutions out of 178 ranked schools. The nursing administration/leadership program, known as the LEAD program, was ranked 12th in online nursing administration programs in the U.S.

The college offers a variety of master’s and doctoral of nursing practice degree specialties that use online and other teaching formats. The programs prepare nurse practitioners or executives in specialty tracks of women’s health, adult gerontology, pediatric, acute care, family nurse practitioner, psychiatric mental health, and administration. This year, together with the UNO College of Business Administration, the College of Nursing began offering a dual degree MSN/MBA program.

“We are happy to be included in these rankings and proud of the expertise and work of our faculty and our talented, hard-working students,” said Juliann Sebastian, Ph.D., dean of the UNMC College of Nursing. “We strive for excellence not only for our students, but for those who they will serve once they graduate. Our online programs make it possible for students anywhere, particularly those in rural areas, to access our programs so they can stay in their communities and eliminate the need to travel or relocate for education.”

Gathering the information for the rankings required compiling a list of nursing schools offering master’s degree programs online and collecting data from the schools. Five categories were used to rank the programs: engagement, faculty credentials and training, opinions of experts, services and technology and student excellence.
