Be Extraordinary Together culture shaping launches this month

Nebraska Medicine CEO Jim Linder, MD, says it is much easier to be extraordinary together rather than as an individual.

This month, we are taking an important first step on a culture journey that will last into 2021 and beyond. Together with the UNMC College of Medicine, Nebraska Medicine colleagues will learn what it means to Be Extraordinary Together, by putting some common behaviors into practice.

“This is an effort to further tie our organizational culture to our ITEACH values,” said Nebraska Medicine CEO Jim Linder, M.D.

“Be Extraordinary Together also will strengthen unity between Nebraska Medicine and the UNMC College of Medicine,” said Brad Britigan, M.D., dean of the UNMC College of Medicine.

Organizational culture includes the common beliefs and behaviors that determine how we show up every day; treat each other, our patients and our community; and how we deliver excellence.

Culture is the foundation upon which everything else is built.

Every month, culture conversations will happen on a team or department level. We will each be introduced to a new behavior, then find ways to incorporate it into our daily activities – both at work and at home. This month’s topic is “Why Culture.”

Colleagues are asked to have an open mind, live and promote the 13 concepts introduced at the monthly culture conversations. We’re also asked to look for ways our individual departments can incorporate the culture concepts into our daily operations and interactions.

“The goal is to make work more enjoyable and make us more effective,” Dr. Linder said. “It’s easier to be extraordinary together, rather than as an individual.”
