Dr. Hageman, D.P.T. students ‘walk the talk’
Patricia Hageman, Ph.D., Linder Professor for Women’s Health in the UNMC College of Allied Health Professions, was delighted to find that the UNMC-Kearney Doctor of Physical Therapy (D.P.T.) Class of 2020 is living the values of their chosen field by what they call “walking the talk.”
Dr. Hageman recently taught from the Health Science Education Center (HSEC) at the University of Nebraska at Kearney with transmission to UNMC’s Omaha campus. During a scheduled break between her lectures, students invited her to power-walk with the class on their outdoor trail for four minutes of the 10-minute break.
This UNMC-Kearney D.P.T. student cohort started the walking tradition between classes during the first year of their professional education. The students navigate HSEC stairs during inclement weather, and a friendly competition in step counts between students is the norm.
Physical therapists are movement experts who improve quality of life through prescribed exercise and activity, hands-on care, and patient education.
“These students role-model the values of the profession,” Dr. Hageman told Fran Higgins, allied health’s communications specialist.

Bellevue Medical Center makes ‘Best of Sarpy County’ rankings
Bellevue Medical Center was ranked No. 1 in two categories of the Best of Sarpy County rankings in the Nov. 13 edition of the Omaha World-Herald. The categories were Medical Clinic and Medical Supplies.
