UNMC for the record

Managing producer and cast member Kimm Beavers facilitated discussion at "The Defamation Experience."

Attendees engage in civil discourse following “Defamation”

More than 50 people attended “Defamation,” a nationally acclaimed play by Todd Logan, presented Monday at UNMC. The production, which is being shown at each University of Nebraska campus, is part of an ongoing effort to foster collective ownership of diversity, access and inclusion across the system. The courtroom drama explores the highly charged issues of race, class, religion, gender and the law with a twist: the audience is the jury. The facilitated discussion, led by managing producer and cast member Kimm Beavers, provided thoughtful and engaging dialogue among attendees.

Two medical center staff selected for Leadership Omaha

Nicole Carritt, the inaugural director of rural health initiatives for UNMC, and Katherine Porto, physician compensation senior analyst for Nebraska Medicine, are two of the 49 members of the 42nd class of Leadership Omaha.

The members of Leadership Omaha Class 42 were chosen based on their demonstrated community involvement and vision for the future of Omaha. They’ll spend the next 10 months focusing on community trusteeship, community awareness and leadership styles, ultimately joining a network of 1,700+ Leadership Omaha alumni. The new members went through orientation on Aug. 15 and will graduate from the program in June.

Participants attended a retreat this month and then will have monthly, daylong seminars dealing with community issues, including education, inclusivity, and justice. Class members also will complete small group projects that push them to translate their community education and leadership training into direct, positive impact.
