Retirement tea Wednesday for Mike Overton

A retirement tea will be held for Mike Overton from 2-4 p.m. Wednesday in the Durham Research Center common area.

Overton, a senior zone facility technician in the UNMC Department of Facilities Management and Planning, joined UNMC in 1975 as a building mechanic in the mechanical maintenance department, performing maintenance on Conkling Hall, Bennett Hall, the Special Services Pavilion, and the Student Life Center, and soon working at the College of Nursing and College of Pharmacy buildings.

In 2007, he was promoted to manager, overseeing several of different shop tradesman, before becoming operations coordinator. In 2018 was given his senior technician position within facilities, which he held until his retirement on Sept. 12, 2019 – more than 44 years of service at UNMC.

“My whole life has been one big blessing, and everyone here is like family,” Overton said. “I’ve never regretted anything, and I have been proud to be one of the team here at UNMC.”
