Commissioners tour UNMC
Douglas County Commissioner Mary Ann Borgeson and Brian Namey of the National Association of Counties (NACo) visited UNMC this week and toured the iEXCEL Visualization Hub and the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center.
Borgseon also is the president of NACo.
NACo unites America’s 3,069 county governments by working to ensure that counties have the resources, skills and support needed to successfully lead their communities into the future. Founded in 1935, NACo brings county officials together to advocate with a collective voice on national policy, exchange ideas and build new leadership skills, pursue transformational county solutions, enrich the public’s understanding of county government and exercise exemplary leadership in public service.
Amy Cannella, M.D., to speak at ‘Healthy for a Lifetime’ conference
Amy Cannella, M.D., associate professor of rheumatology, will speak Oct. 19 at “Healthy for a Lifetime,” a daylong event covering health topics in relation to whole food plant-based nutrition. Dr. Cannella will speak with Elizabeth Denman, M.D., on the topic “Frequently Asked Questions About Whole Food Plant-Based Nutrition and Working with a Doctor to Achieve Your Health Goals.” Find more information on the conference or register here.
Magazine donations needed
Nebraska Medicine Volunteer Services is in need of magazines that will be distributed to waiting rooms and patients.
Do you have some magazines laying around that you’re finished with? Don’t throw them away, instead donate them to Volunteer Services.
- Magazines must be less than a year old (preferably six months or less).
- Names, addresses and any personal information on the magazine is removed by volunteers before being distributed.
Types of magazines sought include hunting and fishing, sports, automobiles, entertainment/lifestyle, cooking, news, travel, and kid/teen orientated.
If you have magazines that fit the above criteria, you can bring them to Volunteer Services, located on level one of Clarkson Tower, room 1874, or campus mail them to ZIP 7509. For any questions, call 402-559-4197.
Book sale for Volunteer Services set for September
Nebraska Medicine Volunteer Services is hosting its semi-annual Collective Goods/Book Sale from Sept. 18-20 in the Durham Outpatient Center West Atrium. The sale will run from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. The vendor is Collective Goods (formerly Books Are Fun). Items offered include books, electronics, home goods, kids’ gifts and more. Proceeds from the sale are used to support ongoing special projects for patients (e.g., red nose clown supplies, hospitality cart supplies and other special requests).
