Dr. Wysong to join Dr. Gold on ‘Rural America Live’

Skin cancer risks, prevention and treatment will be the focus of Monday’s live broadcast of RFD-TV’s “Rural America Live.”

UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D., will be joined by Ashley Wysong, M.D., founding chair of UNMC’s Department of Dermatology, to discuss how to prevent harm from sun exposure, the danger signs to be aware of and advances in the treatment of skin cancer.

The American Professors of Dermatology recommends one dermatologist for every 20,000 to 30,000 people, but Nebraska has one of the lowest ratios of dermatologists in the nation, with only one for every 52,000 people.

As a result, UNMC opened the UNMC Department of Dermatology in 2018. Dr. Wysong is actively building the department’s clinical and research programs, boasting expertise in Moh’s surgery for skin cancer and difficult-to-treat or special cases, especially transplant patients or others with compromised immune systems.

Drs. Gold and Wysong will speak remotely from Omaha for the hourlong, Nashville-based broadcast, which begins at 7 p.m. (CDT). The broadcast will welcome callers’ questions at 877-731-6733.
