Graduate College Workshop to be held on campus

Isaiah Hankel, Ph.D.

The 2019 University of Nebraska Graduate College Workshop will be held at UNMC’s Durham Research Center on April 5, with additional satellite locations at the University of Nebraska at Kearney and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln using two-way video.

This no-cost workshop will bring together graduate students, postdoctoral associates and graduate faculty from across the university’s four campuses to explore non-academic career opportunities after graduation.

This year’s workshop will feature Isaiah Hankel, Ph.D., founder and CEO of Cheeky Scientist and the Cheeky Scientist Association — a private network of more than 4,000 Ph.D.s from more than 32 countries who are in non-academic careers or who are seeking non-academic careers. Dr. Hankel will deliver a keynote presentation at two sessions.

The morning session for graduate students and postdoctoral associates begins at 9 a.m. and features a keynote presentation on “Career Advice for the Strategic Scientist.” Dr. Hankel will speak on identifying, developing and articulating the key skills gained by students through their academic study for today’s job market.

The afternoon session for graduate faculty begins at 1 p.m. and features a second keynote presentation on “Academic Leadership: Supporting Graduate Students Through Their Career Journey.” Dr. Hankel’s faculty-focused presentation will discuss how to help students prepare for non-academic careers.

Registration for this no-cost workshop must be received via the online registration portal by Wednesday, March 27.
