Dr. Fisher named UNMC Outstanding Mentor of Graduate Students
Wayne Fisher, Ph.D., has been selected as the 2019 recipient of the UNMC Outstanding Mentor of Graduate Students Award. He was nominated by current and past students in recognition of his outstanding dedication to training future clinicians. He will be recognized during the spring convocation ceremony.
Dr. Miller named CDC Act Early Ambassador
Kerry Miller, Ph.D., MMI Department of Education and Child Development, was selected as Nebraska’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Act Early Ambassador for the 2019-2021 term. As ambassador, she is responsible for expanding the reach of the “Learn the Signs. Act Early” program and supporting Nebraska’s work toward improving early identification of developmental delays and disabilities, including autism.

Janet Miller, M.S., University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD) was selected by the American Academy of Developmental Medicine and Dentistry to receive the annual Spirit of the National Task Group Award.
The award is given annually by the NTG to an individual or organization that has provided exceptional support, education to training to individuals, families and/or community supports that have been affected by Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias in adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
MMI’s Hembree named Silver U winner for April.
Kristen Hembree, Ph.D., behavioral health provider and assistant professor in the MMI Department of Psychology Department, received the Silver U Award for April. Dr. Hembree’s nominators described her as a professional who exemplifies UNMC values in her clinical work, teaching/supervision, scholastic endeavors, and overall interpersonal skills every day.
Human Genetics lab staff members earn promotions
The following seven Human Genetics Laboratory staff members recently earned promotions:
- Shelly Aust, Jennifer Conner, and Li Zeng were promoted to Cytogenetic Technologist III
- Emily Rief was promoted to Molecular Genetic Technologist III
- Zephyr VanDyke, Rachel Harris, and Rebecca Stroebele were promoted to Cytogenetic Technologist IV
