- Name: Natalie Ronshaugen, M.D.
- Hometown: McCook, Neb.
- Title and department at UNMC: Assistant professor, UNMC Department of Pediatrics; assistant professor, UNMC Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Rehabilitation; sports medicine physician
Professional and medical interests:
I have training in both adult and pediatric sports medicine care. I treat all types of sports-related illnesses and injuries, but most commonly concussions and musculoskeletal injuries. I am trained in musculoskeletal ultrasound and can perform both diagnostic ultrasound as well as ultrasound-guided injections.
How I fell in love with sports medicine:
I love working with people who are motivated to stay healthy and in peak condition. In residency, I fell upon a chance to shadow a doctor at a semi-professional hockey game, with the promise of a free ticket. After working with those tough-as-nails athletes for the evening, as well as a fun group of athletic trainers, physical therapists, and coaches, I thought, “This is a career? Sign me up!” Through residency and fellowship, I continued to work with all levels of athletes, from pee-wee leagues to 90-year-old masters athletes, NCAA Division I sports, NHL and NBA. My patients work hard to get back on the field and it makes my job way more enjoyable. Frankly, it’s a dream job.

Three things people may not know about me:
- I love to hike and run with my husband, toddler, and black lab. The dog keeps me motivated to continue running. If she has too much energy, our stuff gets destroyed.
- I have spent the last week trying to refinish an old end table. I’ve never done it before, but I think I’ll pay for a new one next time.
- I used to be on a traveling puppeteer team in high school.
