Each Thursday, we randomly feature a medical center employee. This week, we learn more about:
- Name: Kristel Rae Becher
- Hometown: Urbana, Ill.
- Number of years at UNMC: Four
Tell us about what you do here at UNMC.
I am currently the administrative assistant to seven physicians within the UNMC Division of Hematology/Oncology at the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center. This includes areas of clinical practice, speaking engagements, lectures, research, etc. I have been blessed to work with, and for, amazing faculty! I love my job!
Teamwork is one of our ITEACH values: Respect diversity and one another. Communicate effectively and listen well. Be approachable and courteous. There is no limit to what we can achieve when we work together. Tell us of a time you witnessed a person or group at UNMC exhibit this value.
As we strive for a “patient first” atmosphere, I constantly witness UNMC staff participating in this mentality. The Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center can be a difficult place to maneuver, and for those patients who are already clouded with diagnosis and treatment, a friendly and helpful face is always appreciated. I witness the fourth floor clerical staff “searching out” patients who look confused or lost in order to assist them. This is done on a daily basis and the patient more often than not leaves the conversation sustained and confident for the next steps.
What is your favorite fall activity?
The women in my family will get together and make meals, passing down recipes and traditions. Look forward to it every holiday season. From grandparents to toddlers.
