State Sen. Theresa Thibodeau of Nebraska’s District 6 toured UNMC earlier this month.

Sen. Thibodeau, whose district encompasses part of Omaha, toured the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center and the iEXCEL Visualization Hub before meeting with Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D.

Sen. Thibodeau said she was excited to learn about the research going on at the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center.

“The bonus was learning about the iEXCEL program and the interactive learning for students,” she said. “Being an educator myself, even though it’s for early childhood, just knowing how that interaction and hands-on learning works, it makes a huge difference, and this is going to make a huge impact on the students that are going through UNMC.”

Sen. Thibodeau said she is invested in medical research and medical care for Nebraska.

“Looking at the innovations, I’m interested in how we can get them out into the community and the rural part of our state so everybody can have access to the great things the university is doing here.”
