Legislative candidate Myron Dorn, who is running to represent District 30 (Gage County and parts of Lancaster County in southeast Nebraska, including Beatrice), recently visited UNMC.

Dorn met with UNMC leaders, including Nikki Carritt, program manager of Nebraska Area Health Education Centers (AHEC), and Risto Rautiainen, Ph.D., professor of environmental, agricultural and occupational health in the College of Public Health.

As a longtime farmer in the Adams and Firth area, Dorn said he has a strong interest in rural health, agriculture, and leveraging education to spur economic development.

He also toured the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center and the iEXCEL Visualization Hub.

Dorn has served on a volunteer rescue squad for 30 years, and said he is especially impressed with the value of the Simulation in Motion-Nebraska (SIM-NE) program. The statewide, mobile education system brings state-of-the-art, hands-on training to pre-hospital and hospital professionals throughout the state.

He also enjoyed getting a taste of several of the educational tools which will be housed in the under-construction Davis Global Center.

“That building is for the future, period,” he said.
