Each Thursday, we randomly feature a medical center employee. This week, we learn more about:
- Name: Victoria Shaw
- Hometown: Greenwood, Ind. My husband was stationed here in Omaha in the summer of 2015.
- Years of service: I’ve been a part of UNMC since March of this year and Nebraska Medicine since 2015.
Tell us about what you do at UNMC.
I am an administrative assistant senior with the UNMC Department of Information Technology. I help coordinate meetings, process and maintain invoices for equipment and software maintenance, maintain staff payroll and leave information, coordinate travel and reimbursements, along with many other clerical duties. I also share in manning the front/access desk for the department at the 4230 Building.
Courage is one of UNMC’s brand values. Tell us of a time you witnessed a person or group demonstrating courage at UNMC.
The IT department is one of the first departments to incorporate the “open space” concept. In the past few months, I have witnessed the department come together to brainstorm, plan and initiate a concept that takes most everyone out of their comfort zone and into a new territory to try and create an environment that supports mobility, innovation and breaks down silos. Change isn’t easy, but I believe that IT is leading the way in setting the model example for the rest of the enterprise that work can be done anywhere, anytime, on any device.
What is your favorite fall activity?
Fall is my favorite time of the year! Something about sweatshirt weather and bonfires. I love to go to pumpkin patches and apple orchards, hay rides and haunted houses, or even just go for a drive to enjoy the crisp fall air and see all the leaves changing colors.
List three things people may not know about you.
- My siblings and I are the first generation of our family to be born in America.
- I’m a huge car enthusiast and love being involved in the car scene here in Omaha.
- I tried out for American Idol twice.
Victoria – Glad you are here at UNMC and in our building. I'll have to stop by the front desk when you are there.
