Research/professional interests:

  • Antimicrobial stewardship in immunocompromised/transplant patients

How I fell in love with infectious diseases:

I was attracted to infectious disease because of its dynamic nature. Pathogens are constantly evolving, and new ones are emerging. To diagnose and treat many infections requires investigating how patients interact with their world. Having a public health perspective is an important and exciting part of practicing in this field.

Degrees:

  • M.D., UNMC
  • Residency, internal medicine and pediatrics, Banner-University of Arizona, Phoenix
  • Fellowship, infectious diseases, University of Washington, Seattle

Memberships:

  • Infectious Diseases Society of America
  • Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America
  • American Society of Transplantation

Three things people may not know about me:

  • I am half Peruvian. Most of my mother’s family is still in Cusco.
  • I discovered Bikram yoga in residency and have practiced it for six years.
  • I am a certified scuba diver.
