Medical students, residents, fellows and physicians are invited to attend a screening of the documentary “Do No Harm,” produced and directed by Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Robyn Symon and hosted by the Metro Omaha Medical Society, on Aug. 29 at the Dundee Theater, 4952 Dodge St.

The film follows four individuals touched by physician suicide and also explores the complex health care system that impacts how physicians practice medicine and the environment for doctors in training. The screening is 80 minutes, followed by a discussion facilitated by Susan Koenig, J.D., professional certified coach and moderator. There is no charge to attend, but registration is requested. Register to attend here.

UNMC community invited to Durham exhibit on Nebraskan memories of WWI
UNMC employees, students and their families are invited to view the Durham Museum’s newest temporary exhibit, “Fighting for the Good Life: Nebraskan Memories of WWI,” which opens on Aug. 18. The exhibit uses locally crowdsourced objects along with those loaned from established public history institutions to tell the story of Nebraskans during the Great War. Timed to celebrate the centennial of the Armistice, “Fighting for the Good Life: Nebraskan Memories of World War I” will tie Omaha and this region to the larger national narrative.

World War I was the first truly global conflict of the 20th century. From 1917-18, citizens around the country rallied to the call for service; men took up arms, women trained as field nurses and children led scrap drives. Using objects received during a community crowdsourcing campaign, this exhibition focuses on The North Omaha Balloon School, Women in the War, Life on the Frontlines, Homefront Activities, the Presence of the Past and how the Great War is memorialized publicly and remembered privately by families. Explore the stories of individuals, like Central High School graduate and YMCA volunteer Marion Crandell who was the first American woman killed in action and aviator Jarvis Offutt, the namesake of the local Offutt Air Force Base. Visitors also may read from personal accounts written by soldiers on the frontlines, see art made from artillery shells, and play patriotic piano music from the era.

Through the Time Travelers program, UNMC employees, students and their immediate family receive free museum admission with a valid identification badge. Other benefits include lectures, workshops and other events on the medical center campus.
