Progress continues on the Orange Parking structure (Lot 1), located to the front and east of Clarkson Tower at the Nebraska Medical Center. Since late April, construction crews have been working to renovate the structure, including necessary safety improvements.
“The new stairwells are nearly complete,” said Erin Peters, facilities project management senior analyst. “The majority of new light fixtures are installed and the waterproofing on the top deck is done.”
The next phase of the project moves construction directly outside of the main entrance to Clarkson Tower and will require the front doors to be closed during September and October. The majority of people arriving to Clarkson Tower, including colleagues, patients and visitors will be rerouted to the Hixon-Lied entrance, past the Healing Hands statue and to the south of the current entrance. Patients who utilize valet services or who are dropped off at Lot 1 will use a new driveway to enter the parking lot and will access the hospital through a temporary entrance to the north of the building. Communication to patients regarding the construction and resulting parking changes is being delivered through NebraskaMed.com, Patient Access Services, the Medical Call Center and One Chart | Patient. If you work directly with patients who are impacted by the construction, encourage them to use valet services or park in Yellow Parking (Lot 5). The renovation project is on time, with construction expected to wrap up by Oct. 31. The middle level of the garage will stay closed throughout the remainder of the project, but the lowest lot is expected to open in the coming weeks. However, because private ambulances will continue to use the driveway near the Kiewit shuttle stop to access the tunnel into Clarkson Tower, the colleague shuttle to East Campus Corporate Pavilion will remain in its current place at the Clarkson Doctor’s Building North until the project is complete.
