Ben Hansen, D.C., a legislative candidate for District 16 in Blair, toured UNMC in July, visiting with campus leaders and touring the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center and the iEXCEL Visualization Hub.
Dr. Hansen, who said he was familiar with the iEXCEL initiative, called the presentation amazing.
“This sometimes is how I best learn,” he said. “I’m a tactile learner — with all the 3D images, I can read all about UNMC and 3D imaging and iEXCEL all I want, but sometimes you don’t know until you actually experience it. It’s kind of a pleasure seeing the technology.”
With his own background in health care as a doctor of chiropractic, Dr. Hansen said he was aware of UNMC’s impact in his district and wanted to learn more about the med center campus and the people behind it.
“There is value in UNMC, not only as an economic driver, but also as a teaching tool,” he said. “I want to make sure that we acknowledge that value. This is not only an economic driving force in our state, but it’s also our ability to move forward and separate ourselves — from other health centers and other states — with the cancer research we’re doing, with the iEXCEL. This is the kind of work that is going to bring people back to our state.”
All government officials and legislative candidates are welcome to visit campus to better understand UNMC, our impact on the state and faculty’s varied areas of expertise. Contact Anne Bowen to schedule your visit.
