The UNMC Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery took advantage of its resident graduation ceremony on June 8 to host a 50th anniversary celebration for the department.
Approximately 120 people, including residents, faculty and alumni, attended the event, which was held at the Paxton Ballroom. Former department chair Donald Leopold, M.D., who recently retired from private practice in Burlington, Vt., gave the keynote speech at the event.
“The department of otolaryngology has grown by leaps and bounds in the past 50 years,” said Dwight Jones, M.D., chair of the department. “I am so proud of where we’ve been and where we are today. The program has great faculty and residents leading the way for UNMC and Nebraska Medicine.”
In addition to Dr. Leopold, former interim department chair Dan Lydiatt, M.D., and former department chair Anthony Yonkers, M.D., attended.
