Linda Love, Ed.D., has been named director of the Office of Faculty Development at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. The office enhances faculty skills in clinical and classroom teaching, research, leadership and scholarship for more than 1,800 UNMC faculty in Omaha, Lincoln, Kearney, Scottsbluff and Norfolk.

The office is guided by the Education Development Committee and Career Development and Engagement Committee to assure and advance the development of faculty and works with a network of stakeholders including the Office of Faculty Mentoring, the Interprofessional Academy of Educators, and Nebraska Medicine.

Dr. Love, who grew up in Lincoln, joined UNMC in 2004, earned her bachelor’s degree at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and her master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of South Dakota. She succeeds Howard Liu, M.D., who stepped down recently after being named interim chair of the UNMC Department of Psychiatry.

Dr. Love has seen a rapid evolution in faculty development needs during her 14 years at UNMC. To address these needs, faculty development is planning programs and services that support the growth of both individual faculty members and the institution as a whole, she said. She will focus on growing leaders and coaching faculty to be successful in representing Nebraska locally and nationally.

“I am committed to showcasing and advancing Nebraska as a leader in health science education. Nebraska is a secret gem, that perhaps shouldn’t be so secret,” Dr. Love said. “Health science educators across the nation have been experiencing an unprecedented degree of change from things like technological advances, more collaboration opportunities, new teaching environments and a greater emphasis on quality and efficiency.”

Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Dele Davies, M.D., commended Dr. Love for her ongoing contribution to the advancement of UNMC faculty.

"Dr. Love has demonstrated a strong commitment to faculty development during the past 10 years, working closely with Dr. Myrna Newland and then Dr. Howard Liu and has been involved in most of the major new educational initiatives on campus," Dr. Davies said. "I am confident that she will continue and build upon the strong trajectory of leadership shown by the prior two leaders."

We are Nebraska Medicine and UNMC. Our mission is to lead the world in transforming lives to create a healthy future for all individuals and communities through premier educational programs, innovative research and extraordinary patient care.
