The University of Nebraska Central Administration and UNMC will convene an Africa Summit on April 5.
The summit is designed to provide a forum for information-sharing and collaboration among faculty, staff and graduate students who have interest in any country or region of Africa — including research, teaching or other forms of engagement with individuals, educational institutions, governments or the private sector.
The panel presentations will be streamed live over the internet. Discussions will be available via Zoom for those unable to travel to Omaha. The summit will be held at UNMC in the Truhlsen Events Center within the Sorrell Center.
“This is a great opportunity to bring together people from across the University of Nebraska who are collaborating, teaching and conducting research in Africa,” said Jane Meza, Ph.D., interim associate vice chancellor for global & student support, UNMC, UNO and Nebraska Medicine. “Our goal is to help to build connections to develop even stronger collaborations with our partners in Africa.”
Goals for the Africa Summit include:
- Enabling faculty, staff and graduate students with expertise or interest in any country or region of Africa to meet and become acquainted with each other’s area of expertise and/or research;
- Identifying one or more funding priorities or projects for which NU faculty, staff or graduate students could compete for funding;
- Identifying potential networks or teams of people across multiple NU campuses who might collaborate on research projects, serve as specialists in courses or research, or otherwise share their expertise with others across NU;
- Enhancing the university’s international collaborations and global engagement; and
- Identifying individuals and resources that may be useful to those teaching about or conducting research in or about Africa.
