“This workshop will provide an introduction to pharmaceutical industries and an overview of the function of formulation and process development scientists in the discovery, development and commercialization of safe and efficacious drug products,” Dr. Mahato said.

It also is part of Dr. Mahato’s ongoing effort to build bridges between academia and pharmaceutical industries, in order to translate research and provide opportunity for UNMC alums and scientists. The College of Pharmacy has hosted four annual biopharmaceutical research and development symposiums.

In addition to Dr. Narang, who also is adjunct faculty for the College of Pharmacy, presenters include:

  • Jeffrey Hemenway, Ph.D., senior scientist in formulation and process development at Gilead Sciences, Inc. Dr. Hemenway has contributed to the development of several preclinical, clinical and commercially-approved products at Gilead and Bristol Meyers Squibb. In addition to his scientific and leadership duties at Gilead, he serves as an advisor and reviewer for several journals.
  • Suniket Fulzele, Ph.D., senior manager and research and development team leader at Teva’s CIMA Labs subsidiary in Brooklyn Park, Minn. Dr. Fulzele has contributed to several preclinical, clinical and commercialized drug products and is credited with scores of peer-reviewed articles, poster presentations, monographs, book chapters and talks.

Dr. Mahato will give opening and closing remarks. The workshop will run from 8:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the UNMC Center for Drug Discovery and Lozier Center for Pharmacy Sciences and Education, Room 1002. Please click here for the agenda or contact Dr. Mahato for more information.
