- Feb. 7: 7:30 p.m. Anand Prahlad will read from his memoir, “The Secret Life of a Black Aspie,” winner of the 2016 Permafrost Prize Award for Nonfiction. The book relates the challenges and rewards of being both black and neurodivergent in America, offering a singular perspective of life with Asperger’s. Steve Silberman, author of “Neurotribes: The legacy of Autism and the Future of Neurodiversity,” praised the memoir as “a remarkable, important, brilliantly written book.” Barbara Weitz Community Engagement Center, University of Nebraska Omaha.
- Feb. 8: 1-3 p.m. Disability Legislative Advocacy Day at the State Capitol, sponsored by People First of Nebraska, Inc. Disability advocates and allies will visit state senators to share their stories and discuss issues that are important to Nebraskans with disabilities. Please meet at the Nebraska State Capitol, 1445 K Street, north entrance, first floor.
- Feb. 8: 7 p.m. The Arc of Nebraska’s 46th Annual Senatorial Dinner. There will be a legislative briefing and social hour, as well. For a schedule, click here. Cornhusker Hotel 333 South 13th Street Lincoln.
- Feb. 14: 3-9 p.m. Meyer Foundation for Disabilities (MFD) fundraiser, Don & Millie’s (4430 Farnam St. location only). Twenty percent of every dollar spent on food and drinks will go back to MFD.
