Lookin’ at U – Holly White

Holly White

Each Thursday, we randomly feature a medical center employee. This week, we learn more about:

  • Name: Holly White
  • Hometown: Anamosa, Iowa
  • Number of years at UNMC: Three on March 9, 2018.

Tell us a bit about what you do here at UNMC.

I am an office associate in the UNMC Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation. I support several faculty members and assist in the many aspects of their daily lives in academic medicine. My duties include, but are not limited to, arranging travel, scheduling meetings and submitting manuscripts for review and publication.

“Teamwork” is one of UNMC’s brand values. Tell us of a time you witnessed a person or group at UNMC exhibit teamwork.
I see teamwork happen around me all the time. No one does just one thing in this department. There is always someone who would appreciate a helping hand and always someone to extend one. I often joke that the real description of my job is “extra duties as assigned,” which is great because every day is different.

What is your favorite winter activity?
Anything that keeps me warm and out of the cold.

List three things people may not know about you.

  • I have four “children,” including two geriatric dogs, a cat and a green-cheeked conure (a small parrot).
  • I was a veterinary technician college instructor for 10 years. My areas of special interest include parasitology and microbiology.
  • I received my B.A. in English in 1993 and then taught English in Japan for three years.

Holly has been a great addition to our great team! Her positive attitude, humor and smile are always appreciated. The day to day support and assistance from all of the orthopaedic office associates up on 4th floor LOC, helps the ortho team on first floor 'do what we do!'

    Nice work, Holly!
