Legislative candidate Steve Lathrop, who is running to return to the legislature representing Ralston and Millard’s 12th District, toured UNMC in December, visiting the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center and the iEXCEL Visualization Hub.
Lathrop, a supporter of the cancer center during his eight-year term in the legislature, said he was pleased to tour the finished facility.
“I think it’s important that people who are involved in public policy understand the importance of the med center and the things that are going on here on the campus,” he said, adding the he was impressed that “we have a world-class cancer care and research center — and it’s doing exactly what people said it would do when they were trying to get me to vote to appropriate funds for the building.”
He also enjoyed his look at the visualization hub.
“The use of technology and simulation to teach medical professionals was impressive,” he said.
Lathrop pointed out that he was a supporter of the university and the med center as a member of the legislature for eight years.
“And I’m committed to maintaining that partnership when I get back there,” he said.
