Lights raise awareness of breast cancer

If you’ve seen the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center when the sun is down lately, you’ve probably noticed the pink lights wrapping the outside of the building. A similar color is present inside the treatment center at Nebraska Medicine – Village Pointe and is on the way at Nebraska Medicine – Bellevue.

The idea came as a result of Nebraska Medicine’s partnership with Project Pink’d, a non-profit which supports breast cancer patients and survivors in Nebraska and Western Iowa. One of the group’s fundraisers involves pink light bulbs which help raise awareness for breast cancer and what people go through when fighting the disease.

The design of the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center includes programmable exterior lighting, meaning the color can be changed at any time. The pink lighting will remain throughout the rest of October, which is national Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

I love that programmable lighting was integrated into the building's design. Smart and cool!
