Durham, Joslyn offer activities

The Durham Museum

A trio of activities are on tap with UNMC community partners.

Events include:

Author Gayle Lynds

In conjunction with the exhibition, “Top Secret! License to Spy,” the Durham Museum will host award-winning writer and New York Times best-selling author Gayle Lynds at noon Sept. 12 in the Sorrell Center, Room 2010.

Lynds has published 10 international political novels. She will share some of her own writing secrets with UNMC employees and students. From her childhood in Omaha/Council Bluffs to her experiences as an editor with rare top secret security clearance at a California think tank to publishing her most recent novel, “The Assassins,” Lynds will explore espionage fiction.

The presentation is offered through the Time Travelers partnership, which provides free museum admission for UNMC employees, students and their immediate families with valid identification. The partnership also offers lectures, workshops and other events on campus.

“Shaken, Not Stirred” Durham Event

Channel your inner James Bond and sip on vesper martinis during “Shaken, Not Stirred,” a 21-and-older event hosted by The Durham Museum from 6-10 p.m. Sept. 15. Dress the part as your favorite Bond girl, villain or 007 himself.

The evening will include:

  • Casino Royale with craps, blackjack and roulette;
  • Live music from All Young Girls Are Machine Guns;
  • Mixology demonstrations with The Berry & Rye;
  • Corvettes from the Cornhusker Corvette Club;
  • Appetizers including M16 meatloaf meatballs and a mac and cheese station;
  • Exploring the museum’s feature exhibition “Top Secret: License to Spy,” with no kids to contaminate the crime scene; and
  • Raffle prizes and cash bar.

Tickets are $25 and available for purchase here. There is a $5 discount on tickets purchased before Sept 1. Use the code “YP Bond” at checkout. Each ticket receives entry to the event, one drink ticket and a voucher for casino chips.
