The College of Allied Health Professions this year is serving as host of a gathering of deans and leaders of Midwestern schools and colleges of allied health. The Midwest Deans Association (MDA) of the Association of Schools of Allied Health Professions (ASAHP) will hold its Summer Summit June 29-30 at UNMC.
The MDA meets every year at the ASAHP annual meeting and holds a Summer Summit every two years on the campus of one of its member institutions.
Kyle Meyer, Ph.D., dean of the UNMC College of Allied Health Professions, is the MDA’s current president and will be welcoming deans and leaders from 15 institutions to UNMC, including the University of Kansas Medical Center, The Ohio State University, St. Louis University and Mayo Clinic.
“The Midwest Deans Summer Summit provides an opportunity for a more informal gathering of administrators to discuss emerging issues related to allied health professions education, share new innovations at our respective institutions, and exchange ideas and best practices,” Dr. Meyer said.
Sessions include strategies for addressing shortages of clinical rotation sites, integrative models of education and clinical care with allied health professions and strategies to improve engagement between allied health education departments. As is the tradition with the MDA Summer Summit, faculty and leaders from the host institution — UNMC — will be presenting on many of the topics, showcasing accomplishments at UNMC. The MDA members also will tour the new Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center and the iEXCEL Visualization Hub.
