Robin Ventura-Rosas, a sixth-grade student at the J.P. Lord School in Omaha, is now a big deal in the local art scene — with some support from the Munroe-Meyer Institute.

“MMI is proud to partner with OPS to encourage and reward creativity in young people,” said Melonie Welsh, MMI’s director of community engagement. “We join Robin’s parents, teachers and everyone at J.P. Lord in celebrating this recognition of his artwork.”
MMI collaborates with J.P. Lord on many programs for the school’s students.
J.P. Lord Principal Laura Mac-Holmes called MMI’s sponsorship of the J.P. Lord billboard wonderful.
“It gets the kids exposure, particularly our youngsters who tend to have developmental delays,” she said. “It shows people, and I think in a big way, that our youngsters are able to make things that people enjoy, and especially make great art.”
The billboard project celebrates Student Art Month by selecting Omaha Public School students’ art for billboard display. Mac-Holmes was pleased Ventura-Rosas’ art was chosen by art teacher Joe Gregory to be J.P. Lord’s effort. The billboard will be up through the month of May.
“Robin is just a charming young man, bubbly and always smiling,” she said. “It’s a wonderful picture that he composed with the help of our art teacher. It’s a winter picture, and it’s beautiful brush strokes on some pretty blue paper. With assistance, he made something that is just beautiful.”
Beautiful work, Robin! I hope MMI gets a copy and hangs it in its hallway for people to see for years to come.
