How I fell in love with pathology/microbiology:
During medical school, my primary interests were physiology and neurology. After a number of elective rotations, I chose to enter internal medicine as it allowed me to play a central role in the health care of my patients.

While I enjoyed the process of creating large differential diagnoses and then eliminating them one by one through tests and consultations, it was one of my consultants, a cytopathologist who performed an FNA (fine needle aspiration) on one of my patients, who opened my eyes to the world of pathology.

I realized that my initial desire to enter the medical field was based on my strong interest in analytic medicine, the combination of studying disease and applying practical methodologies, central to the practice of pathology. Neuropathology, my chosen subspecialty, further blends my primary interests and offers a challenging profession daily.
