Join Emma Sundberg, The Durham Museum’s curator of collections, as she examines some of the key moments and lasting memories of horseracing in Omaha. The presentation will take place at noon today in the Sorrell Center, Room 4053.
Ak-Sar-Ben racing brought excitement and prosperity to Omaha for roughly 75 years. In its heyday during the 1980s, more than 16,000 people attended races each day of the season. The track made legends of men like trainer Jack Van Berg and icons of horses like crowd favorite Who Doctor Who. Though the track closed in 1995, the impact on Omaha is still evident today.
The event is offered through The Durham Museum, UNMC, and Nebraska Medicine’s Time Travelers program, which provides free museum admission for medical center employees, students, and their immediate families with a valid identification badge, while also offering lectures, workshops and other events on the medical center campus.
