UNMC for the record

PHun Day event held at Elkhorn Ridge Middle School
Post-docs and the graduate students from the UNMC Department of Integrative and Cellular Physiology visited Elkhorn Ridge Middle School in December for PHun Day. The event, organized by Neeru Sharma, Ph.D., assistant professor in the department, marked the American Physiological Society/Nebraska Physiological Society’s Physiology Understanding (or “PhUn”) Day. More than 160 children participated in the various stations demonstrating the physiological systems — respiratory, circulatory and muscular. Students had the opportunity to study the anatomy of a sheep heart and lung. Heart rate changes and muscle fatigue activities were performed by using a Vernier Hand Dynamometer connected to LabQuest tablet. The volunteers also discussed scientific and medical careers with the students.
