The New Investigator Award
New Investigator Awards go to outstanding UNMC scientists who in the past two years have secured their first funding from the National Institutes of Health, the Department of Defense or other national sources.
New Investigators also had to demonstrate scholarly activity such as publishing their research and/or presenting their findings at national conventions.

Research focus:
Acute myeloid leukemia (AML)
The goal of my research is to identify new drug targets and treatments for patients with AML.
My research will make a difference because current treatments for AML are very toxic and still most patients relapse. Finding more effective and less toxic treatments for AML will make a big difference in the lives of patients and their families.
The best advice I’ve ever been given is:
“Dreams don’t work unless you do.”
Three things you may not know about me
- On the weekends, I mentor a little girl through a program with the YMCA.
- When I was in kindergarten, I told my mother I didn’t like science because it was for boys. Obviously I’ve changed my mind on that one.
- Even though I grew up in Maine, I didn’t learn to ski until I moved away.
