How I fell in love with pediatric surgery:

I love that pediatric surgery allows me to help patients with a simple bump in the road and to also see patients that I will journey with over years. Children always keep work interesting — whether from their unique congenital twists on normal anatomy or their unexpected, often humorous, takes on life. I feel immensely privileged to do work I love that can impact the entire trajectory of a child’s life. E.B. White said it well in summarizing the promise and hopes held within a child’s life, in his poem titled Conch:

“Hold a baby to your ear,
As you would a shell:
Sounds of centuries you hear,
New centuries to foretell.”

Degrees:

  • M.D., Baylor College of Medicine
  • General Surgery, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill
  • Fellowship: Pediatric Surgery, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia

Memberships:

  • American Pediatric Surgical Association
  • Association for Academic Surgery
  • American College of Surgeons

Three things people may not know about me:

  • I love to read and one my favorite books remains “The Secret Garden,” because I love stories of dead things coming to life.
  • I am always on the lookout for green tea ice cream
  • I love being outdoors

I wish you the best! Welcome; try Ted and Wally's in the Old Market….they make their own ice cream and have some interesting flavors. I know at one time, they had green tea.
