Writing Center to offer help to UNMC community

After a successful pilot in the spring, the Writing Center @ UNMC will be available to students, faculty and staff at UNMC for the coming year in both the fall and the spring semesters.

The Writing Center @ UNMC will operate as a satellite location of the UNO Writing Center and will be staffed by writing consultants trained and managed by the UNO center.

During the pilot semester, usage of the writing center, measured by the percent of available consultant time that was filled with appointments, approximated that of the writing center’s Mammel Hall satellite location at UNO. (Both locations were open 20 hours a week, but the Mammel Hall location is in its fourth year of operation.)

“At other universities, writing center usage typically increases progressively during the first several semesters of their operation,” said Pamela Carmines, Ph.D., assistant dean for graduate studies. “Therefore, we anticipate that use of the Writing Center @ UNMC will expand as more members of the UNMC community become aware of its existence and gain a better understanding of the services offered.”

The Writing Center @ UNMC, located in the McGoogan Library of Medicine, will be open from 2-7 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Appointments are available for meeting with writing consultants either face-to-face or online (for students not on campus). Appointments can be made in person or online.
