Holi celebration set for Saturday

UNMC will again host the Holi Festival of Colors when the Graduate Student Association holds the event from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 9, at the Ruth and Bill Scott Student Plaza on the UNMC campus.

The GSA will be hosting the Hindu spring festival, celebrated in India and becoming popular internationally, for the third year. The festival symbolizes rejuvenation and optimism.

The event will include Indian snacks, music, games and color toss on each other as a way to wash away the gloom of winter. A raffle for a Valentino’s gift card and Galaxy Tab4 tablet also will be held with proceeds going to support the Ronald McDonald House.

Raffle tickets are $2. The event is free. The first color throw will be at 1 p.m.

The rain date for the event will be April 16.

I'd like to say something about this news. Yes, holi is hindu spring festival and it is celebrated by all hindu communities. For example, 80% of population of my country Nepal are Hindus and they have been celebrating holi for ages. I feel it's unfair to say it's celebrated in india and becoming popular internationally.
