Go Red for heart disease and stroke awareness

Last year, many colleagues wore red to show their support in the fight against heart disease.

National Wear Red Day For Women is a massive national public awareness day the first Friday each February, urging women, people from all walks of life, businesses, towns, schools, the media, buildings and landmarks to “go red” and “glow red” to bring attention to the leading killers of women — heart disease and stroke.

Join us for a free event Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Nebraska Cafe. Tell us why you “go red,” pick up heart healthy information, take a giveaway or two and learn more about our on-campus programs.

Help us turn our campus and America red and save women’s lives from heart disease and stroke by wearing something red that day. If you’re in a business casual role, that could be a red dress, tie, jacket, scarf, hat, blouse or shirt. Clinical staff can tap into their creativity, perhaps by wearing red socks.

There’s also an opportunity to join the Nebraska Medicine/UNMC Heart Walk team. This year’s American Heart Association’s heart walk is May 7 and is chaired by UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D.
