Mariano Sanchez-Lockhart, M.D., pathology & microbiology, has received a task order from the National Strategic Research Institute. Dr. Sanchez-Lockhart will receive more than $1.1million to provide immunomics research support for the United States Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID) Center for Genome Sciences.

Clinical studies of novel lymphoma treatments
Julie Vose, M.D., internal medicine – oncology/hematology, has received more than $400,000 in support to conduct two separate clinical trials at UNMC. Dr. Vose is the UNMC lead on a phase 1/2 clinical study that will evaluate the use of a combination monoclonal antibody treatment regimen in patients with relapsed or refractory Hodgkin lymphoma. Dr. Vose is also the UNMC lead on a phase 1/2, multicenter, clinical trial that will assess the safety and efficacy of a novel drug in patients with refractory aggressive non-Hodgkin lymphomas.

Assay development for viral replicon particle formulation
James Talmadge, Ph.D., pathology & microbiology, has received a task order from the National Strategic Research Institute. Dr. Talmadge will receive more than $400,000 to develop assays that will characterize viral replicon particles and their stability under forced degradation to support formulation work.

Development of new Ebola antibody
Steven Hinrichs, M.D., pathology & microbiology, has received more than $200,000 from Emory University to support research into developing a novel antibody for Ebola virus disease.

Mouse model with human immune system for HIV study
Larisa Poluektova, Ph.D., pharmacology & experimental neuroscience, has received a $100,000 award from the National Institute on Drug Abuse. This study will use mouse models with humanized immune systems, developed by Dr. Poluektova’s lab, to monitor HIV reservoirs in the brain under the effects of subtance abuse.
