Research focus:
Colon cancer.
Describe your research briefly in layman’s terms.
Research in our laboratory focuses on understanding mechanisms that maintain normal tissue homeostasis in the colon and determining how these mechanisms are subverted in colon cancer.
How does your research contribute to science and/or health care?
The overall goal of our research is to identify novel biomarkers for colon cancer detection and prognosis and new targets for therapeutic intervention in the disease.
What is the best piece of advice anyone ever gave you, professional or personal?
I try to keep the following advice in mind: “At night, try not to think about the sun, because it will only prevent you from seeing the stars.” (Rabindranath Tagore, India’s first Nobel Laureate).
List three things few people know about you.
- My daughter and I enjoy creating theme cakes for family and friends.
- I have lived in Argentina, Chile, Brazil, England and the United States.
- My husband and I had the same last name before we were married.
