“Hope to Healing: The Journey of a Domestic Violence Survivor” will be the focus of a panel discussion held April 7 as part of the Schwartz Center Rounds.
The event will be held from noon to 12:50 p.m. in the Sorrell Center, Room 1005.
The panel of presenters will include:
- Beth Abramson, Omaha Police Department Domestic Violence Unit;
- Jen Meckna, Douglas County domestic violence attorney’s office;
- Jen Tran, a sexual assault nurse examiner/sexual assault response team nurse; and
- A representative from the Women’s Center for Advancement.
Participants will be able to:
- Discuss the role of each presenter in the care of a domestic violence (DV) survivor.
- Describe how to access available DV resources.
- Identify ways to improve the traditional model of care for DV.
- Describe ways to enhance teamwork between the various represented roles.
- Understand the process of care for a typical DV case.
The panel is presented by Empower, a student-led, interprofessional initiative founded in 2008 as a UNMC Service Learning Academy Legacy project based in the College of Public Health.
Lunch will be provided for the first 65 attendees.
