Celebrating Pi Day with pie

In honor of Pi Day, the Graduate Student Association (GSA) at UNMC will host a best pie competition from 1 to 3 p.m. on March 13.

Pi Day is celebrated worldwide by scientists and mathematicians alike. Pi is the symbol used in mathematics to represent a constant — the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter, which is approximately 3.14159. So it is celebrated every year on March 14 (3/14).

This year is exceptionally special because it falls on 3/14/15, the first five digits of pi, which only happens once a century.

The event will be held at the Durham Research Center commons. Admission is $2 to sample pies, and people are encouraged to bring their own baked goods (pies especially) to enter into a contest to win a $20 gift card.

Funds raised will go to support future GSA events.
